The project continues...

Although originally planned to run until the end of January, the Tree Cozy Project continues! The cozies installed on January 24th have all been removed, leaving most of Granville Street bare. If you feel up to it, please cozy a tree and send in a photo. Let's make downtown beautiful!

A group will be meeting Sunday evening (February 1) to do some more installations at around 7:30 or 7:45. Bring something you've prepared or just join in the fun!

Cozy Installation Party!

Cozy Party
Saturday, January 24th, 2009
1 pm - 4 pm
Granville Street between Smithe and Robson

Bring your cozy, supplies to make and install your cozy or use the supplies that will be on hand
Bring a digital camera to snap pics and take video, if you like

See you there!

Location, location, location!

Looks like the best place for the tree cozies to begin populating Granville Street is probably between Smithe and Robson Streets. There is a lot of foot traffic in this area and it doesn't look like the stumps are going to be pulled out within in the next few weeks.

The stumps run from 36 to 50+ inches around (circumference) depending on the stump.

Depending on how long you would like your cozy to last, it might be a good idea to staple gun the cozy to the stump, in addition to having the cozy encircle the stump.

Call for Collaboration - Tree Cozies

I'm currently working on a collaborative project with the working title:
Tree Cozies
and I'd love your participation by creating a cozy.

Granville Street is currently undergoing a redesign. If you've wandered through the area recently you'll notice that many of the trees that lined Granville Street between Drake and Cordova Streets are now shoulder-high stumps. The planting of new trees is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2009.

In the meantime, it's January, and those stumps look pretty miserable. What say we decorate them?

Possible approaches/ideas:
- create/alter articles of clothing (hats, scarves, knit sweaters, etc.)
- communication of a message
- banners, flags
- tags (like graffiti)
- beautification/aesthetics

Consider size/scale, medium, and how the piece will be attached to the tree (securing the work around the tree will mean it will most likely last longer...)

Documentation Options:
1. Install your piece, document it (photos, video), send documentation to me
2. I can meet you when you are installing to document your work
3. I'm happy to pick up your work and install it for you

The timeline on this is TIGHT!
Deadline to install: NOW until January 31

the project is wide open in terms of theme, materials, concept!

I'm finishing up my final term in the Textile Arts program at Capilano University, and this project is part of my course work. Images and video will be presented to my peers and instructors and possibly on my website (

Please let me know if you are interested in participating.
