I'm currently working on a collaborative project with the working title:
Tree Cozies
and I'd love your participation by creating a cozy.
Granville Street is currently undergoing a redesign. If you've wandered through the area recently you'll notice that many of the trees that lined Granville Street between Drake and Cordova Streets are now shoulder-high stumps. The planting of new trees is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2009.
In the meantime, it's January, and those stumps look pretty miserable. What say we decorate them?
Possible approaches/ideas:
- create/alter articles of clothing (hats, scarves, knit sweaters, etc.)
- communication of a message
- banners, flags
- tags (like graffiti)
- beautification/aesthetics
Consider size/scale, medium, and how the piece will be attached to the tree (securing the work around the tree will mean it will most likely last longer...)
Documentation Options:
1. Install your piece, document it (photos, video), send documentation to me
2. I can meet you when you are installing to document your work
3. I'm happy to pick up your work and install it for you
The timeline on this is TIGHT!
Deadline to install: NOW until January 31
but
the project is wide open in terms of theme, materials, concept!
I'm finishing up my final term in the Textile Arts program at Capilano University, and this project is part of my course work. Images and video will be presented to my peers and instructors and possibly on my website (florenceann.com).
Please let me know if you are interested in participating.
